Dog Grooming Equipment Maintenance: How to Extend the Life of Your Grooming Equipment
The right equipment can make or break your business, and smooth operations depend on keeping it clean and well-maintained.
If you’re looking for ways to make this maintenance easier, you’re in the right place. Just like a car needs oil changes, your grooming equipment needs daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly adjustments for the best performance.
Here’s your ultimate guide to grooming equipment maintenance, complete with practical tips to enhance your efficiency as a groomer.
Why Routine Maintenance Matters
As a professional, you work hard for your money, and you want to spend it on equipment that lasts. Part of extending the lifespan of your tools is about staying on top of cleaning and adjusting them.
Before you add anything to your grooming tool kit, think about the quality of what you’re buying. At Waggz, our equipment comes with medical-grade features, patented technology, and exclusive features that make grooming more convenient. Thanks to each product’s durability and built-in mechanisms, our equipment requires very little maintenance.

Maintenance Tips for Professional Dog Grooming Equipment
With less maintenance to worry about, you can focus on other essential tasks around the salon. Let’s walk through our core product categories with some quick, easy tips for dog grooming equipment maintenance.
Grooming Tables (Electric and Hydraulic)
For all of our tables, you can expect a reasonably low amount of maintenance. They’re built to last, featuring strong lifting mechanisms and easy-to-clean surfaces.
Each day, wipe the table’s surface with a disinfectant cleaner to prevent shampoo and hair buildup.
Each week, check the lift system to make sure it’s operating smoothly with no jerkiness or rough movements. This applies to all Waggz tables, including those with electric motors and hydraulic pumps.
Each month, tighten all bolts and screws to prevent any instability or looseness that might come from repeated height adjustments.
Each quarter, evaluate the lubrication of the table’s joints, frame, and grooming arms. Add more lubrication if needed. For many salons, this will be necessary after about 200 lifts, but you should base this maintenance on your level of usage.
To clean your Waggz tabletop, we recommend mixing a solution of one part ethyl alcohol and 20 parts water. Rinse the solution well, ensuring no residue is left on the table before your next client.
At Waggz, we offer a three-year tiered warranty and our LA-based customer service team is always available to answer maintenance questions. Check it out for extra peace of mind!
Grooming Tubs (Stainless Steel & Electric Lift)
Our grooming tubs make bathtime much easier for you and the pets in your care. Choose from our stainless steel and electric lift options for convenience and comfort.
Waggz’s foot pedals, motor box, and Linak actuator have an IPX6 water-resistant coating, but the power cord should not come into contact with water at any time.
Each use, remove hair from the strainer, rinse the tub, and dry everything thoroughly. This extra step helps protect the 304 stainless steel from developing rust or water spots. You’ll keep your tub in great condition and get more use out of it, so don’t skip it!
Each week, disinfect the tub’s interior walls and drains. Clean out removable hair traps and strainers. This is also a good time to check the tub’s lift system for smooth operation and take note of any unusual sounds, movements, or vibrations (these are rare with Waggz grooming tubs).
We also recommend polishing the tub every two weeks with an eco-friendly stainless steel polish, like Method’s Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish or Ecolab’s EcoShine water-based polish.
Each month, inspect the hose, faucet, hinges, and frame on your Waggz tubs. Check for leaks or corrosion and tighten any fittings as needed. You should also re-tighten bolts and screws to reinforce stability after multiple height adjustments.
Each quarter, flush the tub drain with a gentle pipe cleaner that you know and love. This helps prevent buildup and makes the tub’s components last longer. Also, lubricate any joints as needed, based on your usage levels. We typically recommend lubrication after 200 lifts.
High-Velocity Dryers
Our force dryers keep pets warm and comfortable during blowouts. They’re easy to maintain and help with the beautification step of the grooming process.
Each day, wipe off the hose and dryer body with a soft cloth to remove any hair and product residue. Then, blow out the dryer filter to keep it clean and dust-free, maximizing its performance. Simply attach the round nozzle tip to the end of your dryer hose, turn the speed dial all the way up, and blow through the filter and cap on the back of the dryer.
Air warmed by motors can cause plastic components to expand and contract during and after use. Factors like humidity levels, heat, air pressure, and elevation all play roles in how long your force dryer performs at its peak.
Each week, remove and clean the intake filter to prevent overheating. Waggz force dryers have a twist-lock filter cover, so it’s easy to remove and replace.
Each month, check the dryer hose for kinks, cracks, and buildup that could reduce airflow.
Each quarter, inspect the dryer’s power cord for damage. If you notice changes in the dryer’s noise or performance, have a professional check the internal motor.
We’re working on making replacement filters available for easy ordering through us. In the meantime, you can contact customer service, and we’ll happily help you troubleshoot and order replacement parts.
Grooming Cages & Kennel Dryers
Our modular grooming cages and cage banks with wheels are perhaps the most useful grooming tools to add to your salon. They make cage and kennel storage easier than ever.
Each use, wipe off any hair and disinfect the interior kennel trays. We’ve designed an extra-wide tray slot under reinforced floor grates, so cleaning and removing the tray is easier than ever. (It’s more comfortable for pets, too!)
Each week, inspect the hinges, latches, and magnetic door locks. Look over the floor grates and trays for any wear and tear or visible damage.
Each month, lubricate any moving parts (like hinges) that need to move more freely.
Each quarter, inspect the wheels to make sure the locking function still works properly. Replace the caster set if any wheels are damaged and contact our customer service team for help with troubleshooting.
Dog grooming equipment maintenance for our cages and kennel dryers mostly boils down to keeping them dry and toweling off the interior of each unit.
If your cage is located in a wet or humid room, we recommend installing a dehumidifier to help prevent oxidation. A special stainless steel cleaner can also help protect the cage surface from extended exposure to moisture.
Other Maintenance Tips
You can extend the lifespan of your tools with these grooming equipment maintenance tips. With a little extra care each day, week, and month, you’ll see astonishing results in the longevity and performance of your Waggz products.
Clean with Gentle Products
Use a microfiber cloth and multipurpose disinfectant to wipe down Waggz equipment surfaces. Avoid Clorox or any products labeled “tough on grease,” as these can damage the surfaces and cause scratching.
Secure Loose Screws
Adjust loose screws by securing them with Loctite or another powerful bonding glue.
Adjust Table Arms
Inspect your Waggz grooming arms every week to ensure the thread and height adjustment knob are tight. These can loosen over time.
Secure Rolling Tables
Waggz Roll-Bright and Roll-Light tables are popular with mobile groomers because of the hairproof wheel and rock-solid foot brake. To protect the table (and for the safety of the driver!), we always recommend a secondary attachment method to stabilize the table before driving.
Protect Drawers
Use a small brush to remove buildup along the drawer rails and keep your soft-close drawers sliding smoothly.
Lubricate Wheels
Use a smooth, long-bristled brush to gently remove excess hair and debris from the wheels. Avoid using harsh, scratchy, or abrasive brushes that can damage the wheels’ surfaces.
Once a month, apply mechanical bearing oil to the wheel bearings and screws to protect the smooth, rolling motion.
Check Working Conditions
Keep these recommendations in mind during Waggz grooming equipment maintenance:
- Allow an 18-minute cooldown period after 2 minutes of lowering or lifting
- Avoid extreme cold (<40°F) and extreme heat (>104°F)
- Avoid extreme dryness (<20%) and extreme humidity (>90%)
- Avoid extreme altitudes (1.86 miles above sea level)
- Equipment performs best between 700 and 1060 hPa air pressure
Extremely wet air conditions increase the risk of stainless steel oxidation. This is expected because of the chemical properties of stainless steel and is not a reflection of your Waggz equipment quality.
To combat extreme humidity, use a dehumidifier in the room, increase airflow whenever possible, and towel-dry all equipment at the end of the day.
